Striking A Balance To Keep Stress At Bay

By Andrew C. McAllister

Don't let stress become a detriment to living happily. When you give in and admit defeat you only regret it later, start now and help your future be a better one. The tips provided below can make a difference in how much stress you feel each day.

Your favorite food can help you get rid of your stress. Just remember to avoid the temptation to overeat, if you choose to manage stress this way. Eating something you enjoy will distract you from your worries if you can focus on what you are doing. Remain careful about overeating and eating only comfort food. Use this method once in a while to get rid of your stress right away.

Do something you enjoy each day to help ease your stress. That could be listening to a favorite CD, reading a good book or taking a nice, relaxing stroll around the neighborhood. People claim that they are totally swamped, but the reason they feel that way may be that they don't take the downtime that is needed to manage stress effectively.

Try to envision calming images. Redirect your attention to positive, calming situations. Really put yourself in that situation. Visualize it. Make it real in your mind. Do not just think of a long list of things or situations that make you happy or calm. Do this daily when you are stressed. It will help you manage and control your stress by providing an alternative thought process that calms instead of agitates you.

Listening to music can have a very calming effect that is helpful for managing stress. It can effect us in powerful ways and influence our feelings. Just listening to music is often enough to calm us down. This is not only reasonable-sounding; studies have validated the connection. Everyone has different tastes in music. Take the time to find out what kind of music helps you to lower your stress levels and relax.

Dealing with other people, even beloved people, can sometimes be a pain. Yet, companionship is an important part of managing stress. Consider adding a pet to your life. They are much more easy-going than people, and can provide a relaxing friendship. Spending time with a beloved pet offers a peaceful respite from a hectic day, which can also improve your health.

One way to reduce and control stress is to keep your life as organized as you can. Having poor organization is a common source of stress and frustration. You can cut your anxiety and stress a little, by just making sure that things stay in designated places.

During times of high stress, monitor which parts of your body you clench. Common areas include the muscles in your lower back and your shoulders, hands and teeth. Take note of where your tension lies, and work to keep those areas relaxed during times of stress. This will help to lessen the tension you feel and will help you relax.

Analyze how you currently deal with stress in order to determine if you could be handling it better. Try writing down stressful events and situations you have come across, and how you responded to them. Do this for a few weeks. By looking at how you deal with stress, you can figure out if you are dealing with it in the correct way. If you aren't, then try to devise a new coping strategy that will help you to deal with things on a day to day basis.

Stress can be considered the leading cause of lack of productivity across nearly all spectra of life. The only motivation that stress provides is the motivation to give up. The information you have just read will help you manage your stress effectively.
